How to find and cancel subscriptions you no longer use

Subscriptions are easy to start and easy to forget. A short review every few months can uncover services you no longer use, duplicates within a household, and free trials that quietly became paid.

1. List every recurring charge

Check your card and bank statements for the last two or three months and list every charge that repeats: streaming, apps, software, memberships and cloud storage.

2. Mark each one: keep, downgrade or cancel

  • Keep what you use every week
  • Downgrade what you use occasionally (a cheaper tier or an ad-supported plan)
  • Cancel what you haven’t used in the last month
  • Look for duplicates: two people paying for the same service

3. Cancel the right way

Cancel through the service’s account settings or the app store where you subscribed, and keep the confirmation. Check the next statement to make sure the charge stopped.

4. Set a review reminder

Put a reminder on your calendar every three months. Most forgotten subscriptions come from free trials and annual renewals.

How Saveila helps

Questions

Will cancelling a subscription give me a refund?
Usually not for the current period, but you keep access until it ends. Some services offer refunds on request, especially for recent renewals; it’s worth asking.
How often should I review subscriptions?
Every three months is a good habit, plus right before any annual renewal.
